10 Favorite & Functional Items from our Wedding Registry

As an organizer and lover of all things food, setting up our wedding registry was just about pure bliss. I loved being able to pick out items I knew we would grow to love, and items that were ours, instead of just his or mine. I still say “I’m obsessed with these plates” almost every time I take our dishes out of the cabinet! And I’m not even embarrassed to admit it. Especially being a bride in the time of Coronavirus, it was such a pleasure to still be able to pick out things for our registry and experience the bliss of them being delivered to our doorstep. What a special way we were still able to feel of the love and support our family and friends have for us and our marriage.

Whether you are getting married soon or just looking to hit the refresh button on your kitchenware items, I’ve listed 10 of our favorites below that are both tried and tested as well as functional for day to day use. It’s hard to know what you will actually use, so look no further that the following items:

OXO Good Grips 5-Piece Airtight POP Container Set

Available from OXO , Amazon

Favorite Functions: Dishwasher Safe, BPA free

Everyone raved about these stack-able, clear containers and I never knew why until I tried them myself. Now every other container I have doesn’t seem as magical as these OXO ones. This should truly be a staple in every household. They are perfect for storing just about anything, easy to clean, and look so cute when you add labels to them. I think one of the best features is that they are airtight and extremely durable and scratch resistant. As someone who studied food for four years in college and continues to research food safety, it gives me incredible peace of mind to know that these containers keep my food safe and from spoiling. The pop-tops are perfect for baking with messy hands or just for easy access. Definitely a no-brainer when it comes to adding this to your list!

Pyrex 18pc Glass Storage Set

Available from Pyrex, Target, Amazon,

Favorite Features: BPA free Lids, Oven Safe, Multicolored lids

These Pyrex are practically perfect in every way. They go from prep to the oven so easily and stack well in the fridge. With 18 pieces in total they are perfect for meal prep and it’s honestly hard to believe we ever lived without them. I love that I can store something in the same pan I cooked or baked it in without dirtying another dish. Plus I love that they are glass (read about why clear containers are important to organizing in this article linked here). They are great for just about any stage, from preparation to storage and everything in between.

KitchenAid Ultra Power 5-Speed Hand Mixer

Available from KitchenAid, Target

Favorite Features: removable beaters, lightweight, easy to clean

I got ours in the color “blue ice” and I think I fell in love when I first saw it. I knew I wouldn’t make use a full size mixer from KitchenAid but I also despise mixing things by hand. This affordable mixer was the perfect middle ground! My cookies, pancakes, and even eggs have turned out better since we’ve used this mixer for baking and cooking. It easily makes the top 10.

Gibson Home Rockaway 12 Piece Dinnerware Set

Available from Gibson Outlet, Amazon

Favorite Features: Stack-able, Stylish & sturdy

We got this dinnerware in the “grey matte” and I’m 99% sure I saw Antoni from Queer Eye with the same ones at some point (proof enough to by them right there, amirite). As I mentioned above, I’m still enamored with these dishes every time I take them out of the cupboard. We love that there are smaller plates and bigger plates, and the bowls are big enough to fit just about anything you’d want to put in them. Sturdy stoneware gives it that matte look but also makes them dishwasher and microwave safe without wearing them out. They have just enough of a lip on the edge to prevent spills and sauces from slipping off --making them both beautiful and functional all at the same time. They also go with every season, which helps us keep to a minimalist base style (learn more about minimalism in the kitchen by reading how Less is More in this article linked here).

Ninja Countertop Blender

Available from Ninja Kitchen, Amazon

Favorite Features: single serve size included, to-go cups, power, dishwasher safe, BPA free

This blender is hands-down my favorite that we have ever owned. It’s perfect for processing food in a pinch and has so much power in it. It reminds me of the ones you see at Jamba Juice that seem to blend anything into the perfect consistency. For medical reasons, I have to have protein in powder or supplement form each day, and having an easy-to-use, easy-to-clean option to mix up a smoothie quickly is a lifesaver and truly helps me stay healthy on the daily. I've made everything from sauces to dressings, to marinades work using this blender, so I would 100% recommend it!

Corningware French 12 piece Ceramic Bakeware

Available at Corningware, Amazon

Favorite Features: durable, comes with BPA free plastic lids (dishwasher safe)

Baking is so easy with this set. I use it for everything--from thawing meat to taking casseroles straight from the oven to the table. I think they look so classic and beautifully transition from the kitchen to the dining area without looking messy. My favorite part of this set is that it comes with two options for lids. The plastic lids are easy to stack in the fridge but the glass lids make for a nice tabletop meal for guests. The dishes are safe just about anywhere, from the freezer to the microwave to the oven. The ramekins are absolutely darling; I use them in photo-shoots all the time and they are perfect for dipping sauces and dressings.

Electric Kettle

Available at Amazon

Favorite Features: Shuts-off automatically for protection after boiling, BPA-free, non-slip handle

I never knew about the magic of an electric kettle until I met my husband. For food and beverage options like herbal tea, instant oatmeal, or really any recipe where you need to boil some water quickly, an electric kettle is the real deal. My husband even had ours hooked up to a “smart plug” at one point and set our Google Home to turn it on when he said “Good Morning” so that I could have boiling water ready for my morning herbal tea on demand. How’s that for a gift that keeps on giving? My husband is a keeper, but so is this buy. Truly though, the electric kettle is great for anything from hot chocolate to last-minute, on-the-go breakfasts. It’s a must have in my book and we really like having ours on hand.

Spice Rack

Available at Amazon

Favorite Features: Glass bottles, lightweight, comes with stickers/labels

As I mentioned before, I love organized spaces--so naturally I love organized spices just as much! This rack makes locating the correct seasoning a breeze, and we’ve blended our own labeling system with the one it comes with. The only problem we have had with this spice rack is that the labels sometimes fall off (this can happen sometimes due to exposure to the elements of a kitchen, such as steam for example, so I can't blame it on the stickers or the set, really). I love transferring my spices to uniform containers and alphabetizing them accordingly. It may sound like a lot of work at first, but it makes finding spices a lot easier if they are organized.

Glassware

Available at Target

Favorite Features: Dishwasher Safe, designed with contours for good grip

These glasses are great because they have little notches at the bottom for getting a better grip. It’s a nice feature since cold drinks can start to make your hand slip and can cause you to lose your grip on the glass. Definitely a basic addition to your registry collection, but when you have good basics your kitchen your collection can make you feel right at home! Plus it is always nice to offer guests (especially in-laws) a good glass instead of novelty cups.

Crockpot Cook & Carry

Available at Crockpot, Amazon

Favorite Features: locking lid, warm setting, fits up to 6 pounds

When my husband and I were dating, we made dinner for some friends. We decided on a Crockpot soup since it was around autumn or winter, but immediately regretted the idea once the soup was en route. I don’t think I’ve ever been more anxious than when I was trying to keep that soup in the Crockpot contained! Thank goodness for car mats. We got home that night and while we cleaned up my husband said, “We are putting one of those crockpots with the clamp-tight lids on our registry!”...and that is the story of how this crockpot made it on the list. 😂 It truly is a game-changer when it comes to quick and easy meals, or when you need to feed a crowd. In general, a crockpot is a must for busy weeknights, especially when it comes to stews and soups in the winter. I would definitely recommend learning from our mistake and getting one that comes with a tight seal.
